Chinese in Entertainment (parent organization to LACFF and Sino-Screen) welcomes people of all backgrounds to join as volunteers. Anyone interested in Chinese culture and the entertainment and media industries is welcome. *Please see below for detailed team descriptions and find out the one for you!

Why Join?

Volunteer benefits include invites and complimentary ticket to all of our events. The amount of complimentary tickets to our events is determined by volunteer hours contributed.

Organizing team members also get the opportunity to engage as leaders of the CIE community, and represent CIE when conducting interviews or organizing events with industry experts.

TEAM DeSCRIPTION

operations and Strategy

The Operations Team is in charge of the administration functionality of the organization. Including:

  • Talent / HR: Volunteer recruitment and management, orientation, training, internal development, internal team-building, benefits, title, internal training, motivation.   

  • Legal affairs: legal documents, agreements (volunteer agreement, internship agreement, etc.)

  • Logistics: email (team accounts) purchase and management, meeting minutes taking, material preparation, on-site coordination and personnel management. 

What we are looking for:

  • Individuals who are detail oriented and highly organized;

  • Individuals who are familiar with online tools, applications and softwares such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Eventbrite and Zoom;

  • Skills in typing, experienced or interested in meeting note taking (both English and Chinese);

  • Skills in scheduling, writing emails, communicating and coordinating.

 

business Affairs

The Business Affairs Team is in charge of the sponsorship and business development of both LACFF and CIE, Including sponsorship (monetary & in-kind) and partnership outreach, negotiation, and closing; in charge of the tax, budgeting, financial review and analysis on both organization and event levels.

What we are looking for: 

  • Individuals with a background or interested  in Business, Finance, Law or Dealmaking. 

  • Individuals who are experienced or interested in sponsorship or partnership outreach and management.

 

marketing and pr

The Marketing Team is seeking passionate marketers and designers, who are also film enthusiasts, to strategize and execute upcoming campaigns. Volunteers will gain exposure to and participate in digital marketing, graphic design, events execution, email campaigns, partner negotiation, etc. You will also have the chance to closely work with other CIE teams and network with industry professionals. Experience in graphic design or entertainment is a plus.

What we are looking for:

Markers and PR Specialists:

  • Social media savvy.

  • Excellent Chinese and English written and verbal communication skills.

  • Marketing experience preferred (training will be provided).

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google suites, SquareSpace preferred.

  • Creative thinker and observer, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions.

Graphic Designers:

  • Experience in designing marketing materials (digital flyers, banners, posters, etc) preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite preferred.

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS is a plus

Video Editor:

  • Working knowledge of video-editing tools (Premiere, Final Cut Pro) preferred.

  • Video shooting and sound recording is a plus.

Programming

Programming team is responsible for the heart of Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival - bringing to the LACFF audience the best film made by Chinese filmmakers and the best film about Chinese culture or Chinese languages. Programming team’s duties include managing and selecting film submissions, designing screening schedules, communicating with jury members and filmmakers, and monitoring awarding procedure.

 What we are looking for:

  • Professionals in film industry, no matter you are independent filmmakers, photographers, directors, producers, editors or working for the industry in any field in the entertainment business.

  • Students who are majored in MFA, film studies, communication, and other majors related to filmmaking. 

  • Cinephiles, especially if you are interested in writing (like film critics), or have viewed large amount of films.

 

Development

The Development Team strives to support the development of creative talents who have an interest in telling Chinese heritage-related stories in the global entertainment industry by offering various programs dedicated to improving their odds of success in the entertainment industry. Current programs include monthly events like the China Mixers, The Speaker Series, Writers’ Workshop, and the annual LACFF Screenwriting Competition.    

What we are looking for:

  • Graphic Design skills 

  • Business Proposal Writing Skills (English and Chinese)

  • Knowledge and experience on social media marketing strategies

Content Team is a newly-created division of Chinese in Entertainment, responsible for managing Sino-Screen, a digital media publication that curates news, opinions, and podcasts about the global entertainment industry, with a focus on the Sinosphere. Sino-Screen aims to share knowledge from Hollywood insiders as well as sinophiles and cinephiles.  

 

Positions:

Social Media & Digital Editor (Openings: 2~4 people)

What we are looking for:

  • You live and breathe social media, and pay attention to film/entertainment-related industry news and social influencers

  • A deep understanding and obsession with both American and Chinese social platforms including Wechat, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and so on

  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills, possessing basic knowledge of content editing  

  • You know how to utilize Adobe Creative Suite

  • You are fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English

Job Duties/What you need to do:

  1. Assist Managing Editor to publish, or prepare for publishing content

  2. Assist in editing articles submitted by partnered writers, and ensure content is produced in a timely fashion and meets deadlines

  3. Help manage multiple social media channels – WeChat, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

  4. Assist the team with special projects when needed

 

FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING
